Over at the Serious Blog, my take on the Sprint/Clearwire deal.
A hint: It isn’t pretty.
The press seems to think this is a big plus for WiMAX, but I don’t see it that way. If you had an asset you thought was valuable, and would be worth even more in the future would you hand it to someone else? I wouldn’t either. This is PR spin on Sprint’s attempt to make a silk purse out of the WiMAX pig’s ear.
I would love to be proven wrong, we do need good working alternatives for Internet access, but I’m not betting that way.
