The Life Enhancing Internet

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the Internet?

I practically live on line. So much so that when I can’t be on line it feels like something is missing. I don’t see this as a bad thing. I use the Internet to enhance my life, not replace it.

Case in point.

Last week work took me to Natchitoches, LA which has a beautifully preserved waterfront street. I posted a photo online and mentioned I was in Natchitoches.

We stopped at Mama’s Oyster House for lunch. They serve oysters and shrimp and crawfish.

I’m allergic to shell fish so I had the fried catfish with french fries, hush puppies and a side of toasted french bread.

While I was waiting on the food I put the iPhone to use and noticed that LabRat had left a comment.

Lab Rat: Did you get a meat pie?

Alan: No, but I’m having fried catfish and hush puppies for lunch.

Lab Rat: Natchitoches is (within certain foodie circles) famous for the meat pies- snag someday if your workplace is still determined to send you to every backwater town in central LA.

I hadn’t seen meat pies on the menu. I asked the waitress about meat pies and she said, “Oh sure we have them.” So a meat pie was added to my order. It turns out they weren’t on the menu because every restaurant in town has them so why bother putting them on the menu?

And WOW was it good!

The Internet made my lunch better.

Repeat hundreds of times a day and that is the Internet’s effect on my life.

There are two parts to my life, pre-1994 and post-1994. I don’t even want to think about life without the Internet these days.

Yep, those ARE good meat pies… 🙂 The Internet- well… 🙂

  2. You and me both, Alan. I easily dispensed with my television, but heaven forbid I ever have to live without internet. And books. Can’t live happily without books.

Basic cable only for local news.

It costs me $0.68/month to add the local TV channels to my cable broadband service.

Just put a splitter on the broadband cable and run it right into a modern LCD TV coax input … you can use it as a monitor as well.
