The comparison of gun owners to Jews is valid. It currently doesn’t compare to the situation of Jews in Germany in 1941 or even Kristallnacht in 1938. But it’s not much different from their situation in 1931. The social stigma, the negative stereotyping in the press, schools, and the enhanced harshness of the laws all parallel the plight of the Jews in 1931. We even have politicians talking about the “Gun Problem” just like there were German politicians talking about the “Jewish Problem”. There are only a few people that want to kill us and a few more “enlightened ones” who just want us in prison. But you will have no difficulty finding people that want to stigmatize, harass and impose further restrictions on us.
Never allow bigotry to stand unchallenged.
Ah, but being Devil’s Advocate here — Jews couldn’t choose to be Jewish.
Saying Jews couldn’t choose to be Jewish is the flip side of the blame the victim coin.
The Jews didn’t choose to be Jewish but the Nazis damn sure chose them as targets.
To say that bigotry against gun owners is OK because I choose to be one is most certainly blaming the victim.
I understand, I was just thinking that. It always helps me to imagine the scenario if a liberal friend asked those questions…you provided an answer that might at least shut him up…
Jews could have denounced their religion, their heritage – they could have given up their rights to be who they are.
Gun owners could give up their rights.
The issue is the blanket condemnation of a group of people; in that the comparison is accurate.
