14 million guns bought in 2009

America, Fuck Yeah!

USA Gun Owners Buy 14 Million Plus Guns In 2009 – More Than 21 of the Worlds Standing Armies Combined

Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the year reported 14,033,824 NICS Checks for the year of 2009, a 10 percent increase in gun purchases from the 12,709,023 reported in 2008.

So far that is roughly 14,000,000+ guns bought last year!
The total is probably more as many NICS background checks cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time by individuals.

Since November of 1998, over 110 million guns have been purchased in the US. Over 26 million in the last two years.

Damn, I love this country!

Hell yeah! Suck on that, Brady Campaign!

I want to know how many of those were either new or fresh imports, as opposed to resales of firearms already in the market. As I understand it, the number of new guns entering the market each year averages about 4 million, with about a third to a half of those being handguns. I would not be at all surprised to learn that half of those fourteen million guns last year were either brand spanking new, or just off the boat from overseas military surplus warehouses (like my Italian-return IBM1 Carbine.)

    Alan,

Why are you hiding the reports of how much crime sky rocketed last year?

After all, more guns = more crime….so I’m sure we can find evidence that crime is now out of control, right?

Maybe we can get some Greek surplus Garands in the 2010 numbers …

And yet, we still only have 100 Million guns in the USA according to popular wisdom. Obviously guns wear out and are being replaced every 10 years like cars, right? 😉

Just think – if the feds begin unconstitutional registration of firearms, and if they survive the ensuing “argument”, they can cut their budget ! No need to buy new weapons to oppress the people; they can just use the confiscated ones. See, gun control is another Pelosi/Obama method of returning government to its’ intended size.
