Range Review: Texas City Municipal Shooting Range

Texas City Municipal Shooting Range, Texas City, Texas.

It was a beautiful day Saturday so I decided to visit a range I’ve been meaning to get down to for a while now, the Texas City Municipal Shooting Range. It’s a beautiful little range, well maintained and operated.

There are 28 rifle and 11 pistol stations, as well as two regulation skeet and one trap field. The rifle range goes out to 100 yards with target holders at 25, 50 and 100 yards for each station.

The pistol range extends to 25 yards with target stations at 3, 7, 15 and 25 yards at each lane.

I was very impressed from the moment I drove up. The grounds are clean and well maintained. There are range safety officers on duty and a PA announces regular cease fires. I really liked seeing the attention to safety at a public range. There are shooting benches at each position as well as rifle racks and benches to sit on behind the firing line. They even provide staplers for targets.

Best part, the range fee was only $8 with no membership required. It would have only been $6 if I lived in Texas City.

If you live in Galveston County (South of Houston) this gem of a range is well worth a visit.

Wow, that’s really impressive. I guess it’s a punch off my libertarian card, but I think this is a great civic good. I’d be proud to have my tax dollars go to a facility like this.

God I loved that place. Leaving that was the worst part of the post-Ike relocation.
