What's in a name?

Something made me start thinking about security cameras.

Putting the word “security” in front of camera tries to make it something it’s not.

Cameras don’t secure anything. Point a camera at your open door and see if it can stop someone from entering. Locks are security devices. Cameras are not.

    That’s because you’re thinking about it wrong.

    It’s Security Camera in the same sense as Security Blanket. It only provides a false sense of security. Hence, the name.

    Insecurity camera more like, very often the picture quality is so low as to be useless for crime detection.
