Myth and Science, what’s the difference?

It makes perfect sense that heavy things fall faster than lighter things. Don’t even have to check and see, it’s just common sense, right?

Rockets can’t fly in space because without air, they have nothing to push against.

You can’t build a ship out of iron because iron won’t float.

More guns = more crime.

Myths sound good. So good sometimes that we don’t bother to check them out because it’s just common sense.

We hear a lot of myths in the gun world. Some bear up to scientific investigation and some don’t. There’s a lot of bullshit and fashion masquerading as fact.

Expert shooter does “X” so if I do “X” I’ll be an expert too. What if she’s just a good shot and “X” has nothing to do with it?

I think things need to be questioned.

I won’t accept fashion, authority or common sense as reasons for doing things. I want to see data. I want to see tests and experiments. I want to see science.

Opinions and stories don’t mean anything.

Next you’ll be saying 2+2 doesn’t equal five for EITHER of us. Can’t we just agree to disagree?

Myth and Science, what’s the difference?

Well, duh, myth is what you believe and science is what I believe. Amirite?

There you go, actually *thinking* again. Us peasants aren’t supposed to be doing that; we’re better off doing as we’re told by the wise and powerful Oz and the rest of the Anointed.

  4. Kristopher says:

Part of Science is to put any new theories up for peer review.

A proper peer review is brutal.

Congrats alan. You now know how every person with a new theory feels.

  5. Jess says:

Opinions and stories mean a lot when you’re a lying sack of crap opportunist that wants to profit from junk science.
Grant aquisition requires BS and public support, so dupe the public and the “need” of further investigation produces funds and news fodder.

You forgot “Fire can’t melt steel!” Ergo, the Twin Towers had to have been brought down by explosives.
