TSA: Stealing your money

The TSA isn’t just a waste of money, they steal it too!

A TSA supervisor stole money from passengers who went through his security checkpoint and accepted bribes and kickbacks from a colleague.

Michael Arato, a supervisor at Newark Liberty Airport, admitted on Monday that he regularly took money from passengers during security screenings and deliberately targeted foreigners who could not speak much English.

The 41-year-old, from Ewing, admitted in federal court that he permitted a worker he supervised to steal $10,000 to $30,000 in cash from traveller’s bags over a 13-month period.

  1. If he permitted a worker he supervised to steal, then he was getting a cut of the loot. It is the Jersey Way.

If he isn’t prosecuted, I hope someone files a writ of Man… TSA needs to be charged!

    (mine’s up)

I thought that it was generally understood the purpose of x-raying one’s belongings was to spot valuable items that could be stolen. I can’t imagine that bombs show up too well on an x-ray machine, and since just about anything can be employed as a weapon, they’re pretty much worthless for that purpose as well.

No one ever actually said x-ray machines helped with passenger security, but the DEA wanted a slightly more expensive way to lose the War on Drugs, so here we are.

  6. Take Something Always. I wonder if I can get my MP3 player, that mysteriously disappeared at a check point, back?
