Twitter told third party developers to take a hike.
In a statement issued today by Twitter on its official developer mailing list, the company informed third-party developers that they should no longer attempt to build conventional Twitter client applications.
I don’t use anything but third party apps to access Twitter. If I can’t use them then I’m not gonna be using Twitter.
They have someone interested in acquiring them and whoever it is does NOT want to remain open to third party development.
That’s my guess, but I bet we hear something in the next few weeks about a twitter takeover.
I’m with you, Allen. If Twitter goes solo, I won’t use it. The Twitter ap for my phone isn’t Twitter.

In a moment of weakness I installed the official Twitter app for Android. It sucked. It would hold on to my tweets for half a day and then dump all 27 on me at once. How useless is that?
If people are concerned that someone wants to buy Twitter, but wants to end third party twitter platforms, probably the best way to change their mind is to point out to them that they will face a revolt. Why would they pay full price only to lose it because people are so pissed that they stop using the platform entirely.
The only thing I have to give AOL credit for was basically ignoring the rise of the third-party AIM client. This is just idiotic on Twitter’s part. I want the TweetDeck model – one-stop shopping for all my social media needs. If I can’t get Twitter in that, I won’t use it.
Agreed, Alan. I have one app on my Android that I like to use for Twitter and it isn’t the official one. It’s Plume.
