Why does the SEC exist?

If the SEC can’t be held liable for gross incompetence and at the same time can’t manage to stop securities fraud then why do they exist?

Shut it down. Those SEC employees can find other jobs to surf the Internerds for porn. I’m sure no one will miss them.

The SEC exists to be the collective conscience of Wall Street. Call it figurative self-flagellation so the United States citizens can sleep at night knowing the crooks are truly sorry for their thievery.

It makes me feel better knowing they’re constantly doing everything they can, with my tax money, to insure there’s somebody that truly regrets lying and stealing.

Why does any Gooberment Agency exist?
