TSA threatens to shut down Texas airports

HB 1937, a bill that would have made the TSA’s groping illegal has been pulled from the Senate floor because of threats from the TSA.

In a letter from the US Department of Justice, US Attorney John E. Murphy threatened to cancel all flights in Texas.

If HR [sic] 1937 were enacted, the federal government would likely seek an emergency stay of the statute. Unless or until such a stay were granted, TSA would likely be required to cancel any flight or series of flights for which it could not ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

We urge that you consider the ramifications of this bill before casting your vote.

If you had any doubts that the 10th amendment (and The US Constitution in general) is dead you can put them to rest.

My return letter would have asked them to confirm, for the record, that they do indeed “ensure the safety of the passengers and crew.”

    Ramifications.

  2. alan says:

Yes, the idea that they ensure the safety of anything is laughable.

so, when are y’all going to secede?

I’m sad to see Texas fold so quickly. Those pansies in Austin infecting the rest of the State?

  5. Borepatch says:

Looks like the Texas Senate caved to Janet Napolitano.

As a new resident (formerly from Massachusetts) I can say that the East Coast types think that Texas politicians are dummies. I can’t say that I disagree, quite frankly. Pretty pathetic.

The legislature should have considered calling the DOJ’s bluff on this one and passed the bill. How many thousands of people would be calling for blood when the TSA closed a hub like DFW or Bush Intercontinental for some petty hissyfit?

  9. seeker_two says:

I’d have rather seen the Leg pass it and issue arrest warrants for Napolitano & Co. for impeding lawful commerce….instead, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst caved in to the RINO’s & airline lobbyists in order to save his US Senate run.

I see that the Texas Legislature found that Back Door from the Alamo. If those clowns in Austin had to face Santa Anna, you would still be living in North Mexico.

But the rest of us wouldn’t have to listen to that Dallas Cowboys being “America’s Team” Crap, either. ; )

Can you imagine the fallout across the country if Southwest and American were crippled like that?

These little weasels have caved on too much this year…still, at least we’re not in Pima County, AZ…
though that’s really not much comfort
