Pond

Cleveland Metroparks, Willoughby Hills, OH

I don’t know what tree that is with the reddish leaves but there were a lot of them in Ohio and every single one seemed to be glowing.

    Looks like a maple.

  2. Robert says:

Maple is probably correct, specifically a Red Maple (acer rubrum). It’s not as common down here in my part of NC as the Sugar Maple (acer saccharinum), but you see a lot of the if you travel about. The Sugar Maple’s leaves turn a lovely gold color in the fall, while the Red Maple’s turn a bright red, or scarlet, as your photo shows.

Correction: Sugar Maple is acer saccharum. Acer saccarinum is the Silver Maple. Two very similar-looking Latin names misled me.
