Face it: If your gun hasn’t broken something, you’re not shooting it enough. Or you’re incredibly lucky. But don’t kid yourself that it won’t happen. Springs and extractors are wear parts. That means they wear. Which means they break. Replace them on a schedule.
I’ll take it one step further. If you rarely shoot your carry gun, you’re not doing yourself any favors. Daily carry is tough on a gun. Moisture, salt and dirt build up in the most inconvenient places, which means your gun could (And Murphy says it will) fail at the worst possible time.
Keep parts kits on hand, and shoot regularly. Besides, it’s more fun.
