What the heck is a "gas pistol"?

A man armed with a high-powered gas pistol tried to break into Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin’s tomb on Red Square in Moscow, shooting a policeman in the process.

First, why the hell is that genocidal bastard still there?

Second, what is a “high-powered gas pistol” anyway?

The only things I know of that would qualify as a gas pistol is a pellet gun or an Airsoft. Maybe a paintball gun?

Karpentsov is now undergoing a series of tests to ascertain whether he is of sound mind

I’m gonna bet no…

Teargas revolver … a blank gun with tearing agent loaded into the blanks.

Often built as pinfire cartridge arms so they can’t be readily converted.

The gas pistol is the smaller version of the fart cannon.

    Glad to be of help.

A Desert Eagle is high-powered and gas-operated, but I’m going to chalk this one up to the reporter just wanting to throw in some scary adjectives and not actually understanding what the fuck he or she was talking about.

I think there are CO2 and compressed air pistols that are more powerful than the usual pellet guns. They are only common in places where real firearms are heavily restricted. From the story though it’s hard to tell what the guy had. He might have just been making a political statement with an airsoft gun.
