Then: “It’s not a tax” Now: “It’s a tax”

If the stupid party screws this up then there’s just no hope.

Just making it up as they go along.

Then:

“For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” the president said last September, in a spirited exchange with George Stephanopoulos on the ABC News program “This Week.”

Now:

In a brief defending the law, the Justice Department says the requirement for people to carry insurance or pay the penalty is “a valid exercise” of Congress’s power to impose taxes.

One Response to Then: “It’s not a tax” Now: “It’s a tax”

  1. TJP says:

Yeah, whenever anyone challenges something done by members of Congress, they pretend that their power to tax has been challenged and instead shout down the imaginary argument.

It must be reflexive by now…

Officer: Sir, do you know how fast you were driving back there?
Congressperson: How DARE you challenge my power to tax!

Alex Trebek: In the form of a question please, Representative.
CP: OK: ‘Are you challenging my power to tax, you sonnofabitch?”

Psychologist: Tell me what you see in this ink blot?
CP: I see someone challenging my power to tax!

    Gozer: Are you…a god?
CP: Does a god have the power to tax?
