It turns out the Volt is a piece of shit.
It costs twice as much as a Prius and gets worse mileage.
If it weren’t for the taxpayer bail out of the unions, GM would be bankrupt and out of business now.
Just like they should be.

As might be expected, what with batteries not working so well in the cold, and all.
The Volt only gets worse mileage than a Prius if you use it like a Prius.
Selling electric cars or bitty “city cars”, for that matter to suburbanites is a fool’s game.
For someone like my roommate, whose daily commute is ~8 miles round trip, she’d never use the Volt’s gas motor except once a year when she drove to the Hamvention in Dayton.
(Of course, if the Volt was really about efficiency and not politics, it’d have a small diesel motor to charge the batteries, but diesels aren’t “green”.)
Tam: or a diesel fuel cell to charge them overnight.
Batteries just ain’t there yet. No where near the watt-hour storage capacity of a gallon of hydrocarbons.
Best I can currently get out of a gallon container of LiFePO4 cells is a 10 mile trip on an electric bike, and that included 8 hours of recharging at work. I eventually gave it up, and went back to driving.
