Does it matter?
You might be dead either way.
I remember when the midnight knock was the boogeyman of the Soviet Union. We used to say that would never happen here.
We used to talk about the internal passports required for travel in the Soviet Union and say it could never happen here.
The horrors of the police state would never happen in the land of the free.
We were so wrong.
At least the Soviets had the courtesy to knock.
There is nothing in my home worthy of a 2:00 AM knock from the ‘authorities’, except patriotic skepticism of their lawfulness. That, alone, will get you killed by them nowadays…
Sadly, I fear you’re right Alan…
Ah, my own home town, Baltimore! Also known as “Charm City”. (In a previous decade, they tried to get “The City That Reads” to catch on; it did, as “The City That Bleeds”.) Given the ineptness of the City police, the odds on getting arrests will depend on a snitch. (Ironic, that Baltimore created the infamous “Stop Snitching” video.) At least there is now a City State’s Attorney that wants to prosecute criminals. His problem is finding twelve Baltimorons who are willing to convict a fellow city dweller.
