It really is their money after all.
The UK wants business to send all the paychecks to the government and they will then deposit what they think people need into their bank accounts.
The scariest thing about the idea is that the CNBC reporter apparently doesn’t think it’s a bad idea. She lists a lot of potential problems. It would be expensive and a security nightmare. Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs doesn’t have a good track record with massive systems. The system would be error prone. There’s even a mention at the end that someone thinks it’s not a good idea.
But not once does the article question the basic premise, that it’s the government’s money, not the employee’s.
Anyone else get chills from that?

That’s what happens when your Constitution isn’t worth the paper it’s (not) written on.
Sure they own the fiat currency, but do they own labor? No matter how much of that is produced, civilization cannot proceed unless more is forthcoming.
There are some things worse than being unemployed. One could be employed entirely for the benefit of others.
Somewhere in the OEOB, an Obama drone is thinking, “Why can’t we try that here?” and a LibDem think-tank has started working on implementation schemes…
