Government out of control

Via The Daily Caller:

Lest you think that the TSA is the only out of control government agency out there…

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said using a cell phone while driving is so dangerous that devices may soon be installed in cars to forcibly stop drivers — and potentially anyone else in the vehicle — from using them.

Which is more frightening, that he thinks it can be done or that he thinks it should be done?

Any bets on which car company would be the 1st to have such a device installed? *cough* Government Motors *cough*

These assholes need to be knocked out of their ivory towers and back to reality.

Darn, NFO beat me to it.

We’ve had cell phones in cars for, what, 25 years now? All of a sudden they’re a huge menace?

What’s next, taking radios out, too?

I’m starting to think that they really are pushing us towards a shooting war. They’re pushing the overblown nanny state far too hard and too fast.

Hope Lahood gets stuck on the side of the road during a blizzard and needs to call for help. Oh wait, he can’t! His cell phone won’t work! Frackin’ S@%T for Brains Bureaucrats!

I’ve considered purchasing an inexpensive GSM jammer from a Chinese website and mounting it on my motorcycle.

What’s stopping me? The fact that it’s illegal and would result in hefty fines!

  5. Bill says:

Go ahead, put them in new cars!!

Watch the new car market collapse!! I have lots of old cars!

Nothing much could be worse for new car manufacturers! WE are addicted to our instant accessibility and NO ONE will stand for not using their phone in a car at this point.

Heck, studies show that no one has stopped texting and driving, even where there are laws against it.

  6. Bill says:

And they would catch you how? No one would recognize that it was you doing it! Dropped calls happen all the time, everyone would just chalk it up to that!

  7. Luke says:

You have a good point, no-one would catch me.

However, it would still violate my “do unto others as you would have others do unto you” ethic.

  8. Bill says:

I applaud you, but remember that many of them don’t even know you are there riding a bike!!

    Be careful!

  9. Someone else says:

So what happens the first time someone needs to place a 911 call…
