I think Newt’s probably worse, but I’m not convinced Newt’s running for any reason other than publicity. Honestly, it’s a pretty depressing field of primary candidates right now. The best choice seems to be Tim Pawlenty, whose primary qualification seems to be that hardly anybody knows about him.
I’m not convinced Romney’s a loss in the general, but I’m not planning to vote for him in the primary, either.
1. Not just no, but *HELL NO*;
2. Oh boy! It’s Bob Dole, part II!; and
3. This must have been how the Dems felt watching Lurch get the nomination in 2004…

Romney has three great attractions to the NYT:
1. He’s a technocrat, not a populist.
2. Because of #1, he’s quite liberal, at least in practice.
3. As Galbreath put it, he’s “adequately predictable.”
#3 in particular is why Palin is poison to them.
Several thoughts on Romney:
1. Not just no, but *HELL NO*;
2. Oh boy! It’s Bob Dole, part II!; and
3. This must have been how the Dems felt watching Lurch get the nomination in 2004…
