And yet, I cannot get most of my colleagues at work, all professionals, to agree that there is even a danger of the establishment of a police state. One is a re-enactor on the Union side of the War Between the States, and idolizes Lincoln. Yet he know virtually nothing about the circumstances of the run-up to the war, the events during the war, or much history at all, other than the thin gruel served up in public middle schools. He has no curiosity about his “hobby” other than getting to dress up and play at being in a battle. One what he smugly described to me as “the winning side”. AArrggh!
